Why are people listening to the lies about health care reform?
Lie #1: President Obama wants to euthanize your grandma!!!
The truth: These accusations—of "death panels" and forced euthanasia—are, of course, flatly untrue. As an article from the Associated Press puts it: "No ‘death panel’ in health care bill."1 What’s the real deal? Reform legislation includes a provision, supported by the AARP, to offer senior citizens access to a professional medical counselor who will provide them with information on preparing a living will and other issues facing older Americans.2
If you’d like to read the actual section of the legislation that spawned these outrageous claims (Section 1233 of H.R. 3200) for yourself, here it is. It’s pretty boring stuff, which is why the accusations that it creates "death panels" is so absurd. But don’t take our word for it, read it yourself.

Lie #2: Democrats are going to outlaw private insurance and force you into a government plan!!!
The truth: With reform, choices will increase, not decrease. Obama’s reform plans will create a health insurance exchange, a one-stop shopping marketplace for affordable, high-quality insurance options.3 Included in the exchange is the public health insurance option—a nationwide plan with a broad network of providers—that will operate alongside private insurance companies, injecting competition into the market to drive quality up and costs down.4 If you’re happy with your coverage and doctors, you can keep them.5 But the new public plan will expand choices to millions of businesses or individuals who choose to opt into it, including many who simply can’t afford health care now.
——————————————————————————–
Lie #3: President Obama wants to implement Soviet-style rationing!!!
The truth: Health care reform will expand access to high-quality health insurance, and give individuals, families, and businesses more choices for coverage. Right now, big corporations decide whether to give you coverage, what doctors you get to see, and whether a particular procedure or medicine is covered—that is rationed care. And a big part of reform is to stop that.
Health care reform will do away with some of the most nefarious aspects of this rationing: discrimination for pre-existing conditions, insurers that cancel coverage when you get sick, gender discrimination, and lifetime and yearly limits on coverage.6 And outside of that, as noted above, reform will increase insurance options, not force anyone into a rationed situation.
——————————————————————————–
Lie #4: Obama is secretly plotting to cut senior citizens’ Medicare benefits!!!
The truth: Health care reform plans will not reduce Medicare benefits.7 Reform includes savings from Medicare that are unrelated to patient care—in fact, the savings comes from cutting billions of dollars in overpayments to insurance companies and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse.8
——————————————————————————–
Lie #5: Obama’s health care plan will bankrupt America!!!
The truth: We need health care reform now in order to prevent bankruptcy—to control spiraling costs that affect individuals, families, small businesses, and the American economy. Right now, we spend more than trillion dollars a year on health care.9 The average family premium is projected to rise to over ,000 in the next decade10—and each year, nearly a million people face bankruptcy because of medical expenses.11 Reform, with an affordable, high-quality public option that can spur competition, is necessary to bring down skyrocketing costs. Also, President Obama’s reform plans would be fully paid for over 10 years and not add a penny to the deficit.12

I have read the bill personally.
Sorry, but I don’t believe you’ve actually read the Bill as you claim you have. Read Section 102, beginning on page 16 and then tell me with a straight face that if you like your current plan, you can keep it. And as far as Obama’s plans not adding a penny to the deficit, why has the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office contradicted that claim?
i think they’re more worried that they’ll have to pay for other people’s insurances with their tax money or that the waiting times will increase. i think there should be a healthcare reform but those two should be avoided.
the simple truth is, Conservatives and Republicans want Obama to fail at everything. Even if it is good for America. They don’t care and they are willing to lie to see him fail.
They are extremely good at propaganda….. they have found that if you say something often enough , people start to think it is true…..
sound familiar??????
and they call Obama a Nazi. Their propaganda is straight out of the Nazi handbook.
Let’s break it down to its simple format. Aside that you should read pages 425, 426, and 427 of the proposed bill.
Healthcare is NOT a governmental right of the people – if the government dictated everything, may it be good or bad for it’s’ citizenship, that is a Socialistic operation. If a person works their rear off all of their life, and earns the best healthcare they can get, but another person who sits on a stoop with a 40 oz all of their life, or just crossed the border into this country illegally feels they deserve the equal right as the first schmoe – it’s wrong.
Someone is going to have to pay for this – this will lead for more dependency of the government by the people. Self-determination, perseverance, and fortitude will vanish. Why should I educate myself, when I know the next guy won’t, so I’ll make the money and have to give it to the empty suit?
It starts with health care – eventually there will be no private insurance. If you have private insurance now, you keep it. If you switch jobs you have to take the Gov. Healthcare – do you see what’s happening? Eventually privatization is eliminated – and that’s one facet. Free will is in the constitution, but when a president appoints 44 CZARS, with no over sight to their actions – there’s something wrong, and an impropriety exists – reporting on neighbors? Heck the Gov can’t even run a $4500 rebate for cars; you want them running health care?
If you have a stage 2 cancer – the approval for your radiation therapy will have to go through a gauntlet of bureaucrats for approval – do you want Marge at the DMV deciding whether or not you get treatment? And if approved it will take months before the approval comes through – that’s called a death panel – it’s not black and white as the Democrats want you to believe in the way we think – it’s the Democrats that are dumbing it down for you!
Why do you trust the press? They will put additional taxes on private healthcare which will force us out of it. Costs will skyrocket and rationing will happen. Name a government program in which costs weren’t exceeded as planned. 300 billion cut from medicare sounds like cutting benefits to me. How can you people honestly not research this stuff for themselves? No press needed just go by what history teaches.
Would you actually read the bill? The truth is in there. Its the Libs that are spinning the truth.
Honestly because they want to believe the Lies . They are in fact up set that a Half Black Man is President . and Republicans / Conservatives got so comfortable having the Power in this country that they are out for blood so to speak because they Lost that power Big Time .
I don’t care what they say about government control . The Republican Patriot Act is Government control at it’s worse .
And some of those same people who scream about Socialism get their SOCIAL Security checks every month or at least I would bet that some one dose in their family .
the lie is one sentence. the truth is about a paragraph.
I hope this was a cut and paste deal and you didn’t waste your time typing this, because they don’t care. They just hate the President…period!
Don’t worry. We’re not listening to the far-right rhetoric. Health care reform will pass…
You are perhaps the only person here as informed as myself that i have ever met.
Anyways … conservatives typically believe that fellow conservatives are incapable of lying to them. When the fact is that a con will lie and cheat another without a moments notice to try and maintain power.
Rush could basically get on the radio and claim that the sky was purple, and that we’re all just voices inside his head, and most of them would believe it…
And to the cons that will undoubtedly bash me …no …i dont give you any faith to think on your own ….because none of you have ever done it…
EDIT: to ShaeDae
There was a blissfully obvious reason we smashed them if you were paying attention….
We’re trying to limit emissions, and save some gas at the same time as rejuvenating the industry, plus the scape metal helps.
EDIT: To Eric S
Why do conservatives constantly try to prophesize future events that they fear, even when no one is even suggesting them?
I get thumbs down cause i pose logical arguement …its funny stuff.
If health care ends up being like the cash for clunkers program where all those cars that could have been driven by people who really needed them but were smashed instead because of some scheme the way they were, then we really do have something to worry about. I am not feeling too good about it right now. There is no real good explanation as to why all those cars were smashed. Something is fishy about the whole darn thing, and I feel scammed.
Lie #1: Section 1233 – End of life counseling every 5 years, OR, if there is a significant change in the health condition of the individual … or upon admission to a skilled nursing facility, a long-term care facility… or a hospice program.
Put that together with the bill’s stated purpose "to reduce the growth in health care spending."
This is exactly what people have issue with.
Consider also, the comments made:
Obama says to "take a pill."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJYvaLS-x…
Daschle says seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them.
Rahm’s brother wrote an AMA article indicating doctors take the Hippocratic Oath too seriously, "as an imperative to do everything for the patient regardless of the cost or effects on others"
"effectively communicates the individual’s preferences regarding life sustaining treatment, including an indication of the treatment and care desired by the individual;"
"The level of treatment indicated under subparagraph (A)(ii) may range from an indication for full treatment to an indication to limit some or all or specified interventions."
Meaning that the possibility exists that care option/treatment would be taken out of the patient’s hands.
This is so long, I don’t want to address each of these individually, however rationing is a reality of care that would reach this number of people. That has, and is currently, happening elsewhere. They have no idea how to pay for this, outside of taxation. This is a plan that will break American families during a recession. Quality care will go bye-bye. They’ve already said specialized treatments will be cut.
Most people are happy with their care. For those who aren’t insured, Patients’ Choice Act is a measure of true reform, not an overhaul of the entire system.
I don’t know one person listening to/believing these lies. I know a decent number of Conservatives that are, but no people.
I do not oppose it because of any of the so called lies you have mentioned. I oppose because NOWHERE IN THE US CONSTITUTION does the Federal Government have the authority to do this. To sit here and believe the Federal Government has the power to do what ever they want as long as they tell the American people hey we are doing it to promote the "general welfare," will set such a horrible precedent that will pose a grave risk to the ideals of our Founding Fathers.
If Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Frank and company would package this is as a proposed Amendment to the Constitution it would have my support. That said since they do not want to do that I oppose giving the Federal Government any power the Founding Fathers did not already give them.
You are taking the most rediculous exaggerations so they can be completely renounced. The truth may not be as extreme, but it is still troubling
#1 The "Death Panels."
There is nothing in the bill about "Death Panels." But there are panels that will decide whether a particular treatment is warrented.
But as we experience an increase in pateints, a decrease in doctors, and crippling costs, there WILL be rationing! That is simply inevitiable.
WHEN this rationing occurs, those panels that are supposed to decide, based on medical merit, whether a treatment is warrented, could easily make those decisions based on whether the person is deemed worthy. THEN these panels would have become "Death Panels."
Considering this bill would not take effect until 2013, and it would take a year or two, or more, for it to get to this level, there is a good chance a Repulbican will be in office by then.
So, for those who can’t stand the Religous Right, Do you want a homophobe deciding who gets the AIDS medication?
#2 I have never heard anyone claim the Dems were going to "outlaw" private insurance! The truth is that if you make ANY changes to your current insurance, such as adding a newborn, then you will be shuttled into the government system. You can no longer keep your old insurance. So within 5 or 10 years, we will all be on the public option. Only the rich could afford anything else.
http://finance.yahoo.com/insurance/article/107408/5-freedoms-you-would-lose-in-health-care-reform.html;_ylt=AsSPpdjdHgVnCbXlUyQDVp4aBa1_;_ylu=X3oDMTEyc2w4bmtmBHBvcwM1BHNlYwNhcnRpY2xlBHNsawM1ZnJlZWRvbXN5b3U-?mod=insurance-health
#3 Obama may not WANT to instill any kind of rationing, but there is no real way to avoid it. It is an unintended consequence of the bill.
#4 Obama has stated he needs to "trim waste" from Medicare. Plus, it is currently difficult to get a doctor who accepts Medicare patients. Many will only accept a few. The Medicare system results in more bureaucratic hassle and less compensation. If the Public Options are part of the bill, then there will be even fewer chances to get a doctor.
#5 We need to do something. This is NOT the something we need to do!
Tort reform will result in fewer needless tests.
Mandating insurance companies standardize their forms will result doctors and hospitals having to hire fewer staff members to handle the paperwork.
http://money.cnn.com/2009/08/10/news/economy/healthcare_money_wasters/index.htm
More college loans for those wanting to go into medicine will increase the number of providers. This will decrease the cost of medicine as doctors will be competing for patients.
Allowing people to shop for insurance across state lines will inprove competition as well.
And how about vouchers? Give the poor vouchers so they can afford to buy their own insurance.
