What is the purpose of health insurance companies?

August 17th, 2011 10 comments

To be the middle man between doctors and patients?

To tell us only healthy people can see a doctor?

Why do we need them?

Do they provide any service at all besides collecting money?

Are you old enough to remember when doctors were healers and not in medicine to collect as much money as possible from your insurance company before the company drops you for being sick?

Besides collecting money, what do insurance companies do?

And don’t say they help cover the high cost, the main reason for personal bankruptcy in this country is medical bills. These are people who had insurance, but were dropped because of major illness. So that’s not it. (this actually drives the costs up)

This country was built on small businesses, not on criminal big business that provides no service, no service at all.

Can you imagine a world in which all you have to worry about when you are seriously ill… is getting well?

Besides collecting money, what do insurance companies do?

Does anybody get this joke I found on cleanjoke.com?

January 3rd, 2011 4 comments

just one of those jokes you cant laugh at because you dont understand. If anybody can tell me what it means by chapter 11, best answer comes and knocks on your front door…

There was a guy who owned his own business. He sold plastics to many different companies. One day one of his warehouses burnt to the ground. This led to many orders being canceled and a loss of customers. The insurance company was not going to cover the damage. This guy was in real trouble. He could lose everything.

Well, the guy decided to see his minister. He said to the minister, "I need help! My warehouse burnt to the ground, my product is all gone, my customers are leaving, and I am losing everything!"

The minister told him, "You can find all the answers to your problems in the Bible."

The guy asked, "Where should I start?"

The minister answered, "If you do not know where to look, just open the book and place your finger on the page, and start right there. Sooner or later you will find your answers."

Well, A few months later the minister ran into the individual. It was obvious the individual had become very successful. He had a new car, new clothes, several rings and chains.

The guy walks over to the minister and says, "Thank you. The answers I found turned my life around!"

The minister was curious and said, "In what passage did you find your answers?"

The man says, "I did just what you said. I opened the Bible to a spot, looked down, and found my answer staring me right in the face – "Chapter 11."

Review this resume and help me out i need to find a job pronto.?

Anyone got any idea's on how to get some money back from a loan we gave our kids?

November 15th, 2010 14 comments

My daughters husband is a dreamer: goes from one job to another. He finally drove them into financial ruin by trying to operate a house gutter business. My husband & I have been buying groceries & paying some bills for them over the last year. They lost their health insurance & have 2 sons, one with diabetes & one with asthma. My son-in-law has ticked a lot of people off by not showing up for jobs & is being sued. He is not a nice person but seems to think the world owes him a living. We help our daughter & grandsons because it’s not their fault but have got to the stage where we think we’re enabling him by giving them money. It’s gotten as far as having to co-sign for our daughters car so she can get to work.
The S-I-L has now got a restaurant job but they are still in debt & talking about bankruptcy (again).
We have an unexpected bill ourselves this month & would like to get some money back (the 0 we lent him to buy a truck when his got re-possessed would be nice).

Will the IRS try to get money from my wife's paycheck or small business income or bank accounts?

October 26th, 2010 9 comments

I was in the Real Estate Business from 2005 to 2008.

I eneded up owing taxes for those 4 years to the tune of 18,000.

I got married in Feb. 2007 but my wife and I have never filed a joint tax return. NEVER!

In Sept of 2009, I filed for bankruptcy and it was discharged in March of 2010.

My wife is the only with and income right now. I have been trying to put together real estate deals with no luck as of yet.

My wife brings home about 2400 a month from her job and has a very small side business with avon and ebay. she may make an extra 300 a month off that, I am not sure, but it is not significant.

Our expenses are as follows

00 for rent
0 for car note
0 car insurance
0-600 food
0 Utilities
Term Life Insurance
0 Clothes
0 Misc

Note: We have a 9 year old son

We don’t have any saving at all but she does have a 401K with her job.

I have not brought in a dime since 2008 hence the reason I filed bankruptcy.

My question is… Do I qualify for non-collectible status and also, will they try and make my wife pay for my debts since she is working? Will they come after her bank account or wages
Also, I do not own a car. I sold it as a part of my bankruptcy in 2009.

We have no joint back accounts

We have never filed jointly on tax returns to keep or finances seprate.

Is my wife’s business income safe as well?

Tell us how you feel our american economy as a whole..and any concerns you have..?

October 20th, 2010 2 comments

also, please indicate how you think we got to where we are, whether its budget deficits, trade deficits, record consistently high gas prices, outsourcing of jobs, insourcing of cheaper and cheaper labor, the housing bubble, artificially low interest rates, the foreclosure crisis, why businesses offer less health insurance coverage than before….unaffordable health care costs, the fact that laws were passed to make it harder to file bankruptcy now….etc.. You get the idea. Tell us what you think about our american economy…..and how we got to this point.

What kind of loans are available to buy a house for someone with not so good credit?

August 5th, 2010 2 comments

My husband died early this year. He had, so he said, and insurance policy for ,000.00. He got papers every year from Prudential which he opened and put away. When he died, however, and I called the company, I found out that he had lied, (not the first time), and the only insurance he left was a 2000.00 policy in his parent’s name, he had let the other policy lapse last year.

The house I am living in now was in foreclosure…my late mother in law bought the house back in 1996 and we paid her rent money every month towards the mortgage payments. After she died, my husband took the advice of a friend of his at work who told him, "You don’t have to make any house payments until the probate is settled", which of course was not true. So my husband, while assuring me he was making the house payments from a checking account he had in his own name was in fact not making them, and lying to me about it. (YES, I KNOW he was an idiot, but it gets worse.)

Without telling me a word about it, he allowed the house to go into foreclosure, it was a default case, and he didn’t even OPEN any of the papers he got from the court. The papers all went down to his late mother’s house, since the loan was in her name, and I didn’t see them, or I would have taken steps to stop it. (He also let her house go into foreclosure and lost it at auction last year. Yes, an idiot.)

The first I heard of it was when he told me that the house was due to be sold at sheriff’s auction. Frantically, I looked on line and he declared emergency bankruptcy with less than 24 hours to go before the sale. He then went through Loss and Mitigation. Right now, they want to refinance the loan but the loan is STILL in my late mother in laws name, even though I have sent them 4 copies of her death certificate, and called them 7 times to explain the situation.

I don’t even WANT this house any more because I can’t stand it, it needs major repairs, and our next door neighbor is crazy and keeps gossiping about us all over town and is showing an unnatural interest in my pretty 19 year old daughter.

We saw a house in town that we love and can get for ,000.00. Unfortunately, I don’t have much money at all, since I had to pay off a few creditors after my husband died unexpectedly in February.

Right now I am not working; I lost my job early in 2008 after the company I worked for went out of business. I have been applying for jobs ever since without success, and believe me I’m not picky. I don’t have a very good credit history right now, since my late husband and mother in law took out credit cards in my name after we moved and the applications came to my mother in laws house (where we had lived) and they filed them out, maxed them out, and never paid on them. (My husband told me at first it was my mother in law who took them out herself, telling me this after she died, then late in January he confessed that he had taken them out with her too, (Believe me when I say if there hadn’t been a death there would have been a divorce)). So I don’t know if that’s why I can’t get a job or if it’s my age. (I’m in my mid 50’s and a lot of companies are hiring younger people now.)

My 22 year old son, who is out of school and working, and my 19 year old daughter who goes to school and works part time live with me, and I get a Social Security check for me and my 12 year old daughter every month. We want this house very badly, I can’t sell mine right now because it needs too many repair jobs, which my husband never did, and I don’t have the money to have them done.

We really want the other house. Is there anyplace we can get a loan in our situation? Anyone who can give me some good advice, (and not smart mouth me about my situation, or my horrid late husband and his equally horrid mother), I would so appreciate it. This house is driving me to despair and I so want to start out in a new place, fresh away from any reminders of my late husband and away from the hideous neighbor. (This reads like a bad movie, I know, but it’s all true.) Thank you!

FLORIDA LAW-my wife got hit by a car while riding her bike on the sidewalk.?

May 25th, 2010 3 comments

-my wife got hit by a car while riding her bike on the sidewalk.
-we got a lawer to handle the case.
-he got her going to a chiropractor
-she was seen by an orthopedic surgeon and he found she had a torn miniscus
-she wasnt on my car insurance because she doesnt drive, although she has a driver license for identification purposes.
-the lady that hit her’s insurance was geico and the we requested them to tender policy limits…which are ,000
-they approved it and the release was executed.
-the hospital bill one night came out to ,000
-the 10 min visit to the orthopedic was ,500.00
-the therapy for 3 1/2 mo was about ,000
-MRIs are about another 00
-and the lawer fee ,333.33
-my insurance paid about ,000
-unfortunately we do not have health insurance.
-if we go after the lady that hit her, her only asset is a house that costs about 0,000 in the market right now. The lawyer suggested not to because the lady could just file for bankruptcy…she recently had forclosure on her home.
I feel were getting ripped off.
-I want to know what can be done so my wife is not in dept and her credit doesnt get destroyed…I feel our lawyer could care less what happens to us, he just wants his 1/3. the check for 10,000 came in from geico and he had us come in to sign it. He says he is going to try to negociate the amount that we owe from the different parties . we going to probably end up with less than 00. This has really affected our marriage because not only is she still in pain she lost her job but we are going to be in more dept than we already are. She didnt choose to get hit by that car riding her bike on the sidewalk. how much control does the lawer have of our money after he deposits it? once the check clears "7-10 business days" we have to come back and sign this paper stating what is owed… Does he get total control of our money? Say, can he still pay off his medical buddies without our authorization? I dont care about his part. I will pay him with no problem… What gets me is paying his medical people which he recomended to us…the chiro just touched her back less than a minute and they would just put heat pads and electricity. they never really did physical therapy massaging or anything. What did we get out of our misfortune? That for doing the right thing after an accident, getting an attornery. He just played the cards for the insurance to pay, then for him to pay off himself and his recommended medical specialists and we get hardly no compensation for the pain my wife still suffers after accident and our lost wages? This is crazy. What can be done at this point? I would not want to work with this lawyer again because on several occasions he was nasty to me over the phone telling me my "case just sucks", and scolding me ‘how could i not have health insurance for my wife?" I told him i dont even have it myself and neither do 47million americans.

any lawyers out there willing to help me?

in 2004 i bought a house and had it put on 2 acres of land that i owned out right for over 15 years, in 2008 the house burned down and was considered a total loss by the fire dept and the insurance adjuster, i sent the insurance proceeds to the mortgage company who has done nothing but give me the run around bouncing me from one dept to another, after nearly 18 months the mortgage company went to court and foreclosed on the property then 4 months later went back to court and had the foreclosure sale set aside, i have asked the mortgage holder to send me a statement of the total amount owed on the loan but they wont send me any thing in writing, when i asked for a statement saying they received the insurance proceeds they told me to write a letter requesting the information so their LEGAL DEPT could review it and decide if they could release the information to me. i had replacement insurance but would not rebuild because of the shitty way this company has done business with me. i have filed a complaint with the better business bureau the banking commissioner and the insurance commissioner in my state. we all know the banks do WTF they want to do without restraint that’s why our economy is so F$$$$D up, i don’t have the money to hire an attorney as it has taken all my every thing to try and put my life back together, i lost my job in december and im really struggling to get by with my son. Im beginning to get very depressed and would like to put this behind me so that i can move on with my life. if there is any one out there that can help me i would appreciate it and will pay you what i can. the attorneys that i have tried to talk to want hundreds of dollars just to talk to me then want thousands to help me. i tried filing bankruptcy but was told i needed the financial info concerning the mortgage the total on the loan was 90988 when the house burned down the insurance proceeds were 75000, but now with all the legal fees late fees and other bullshit i have no idea how much it is. i just know its a mess and all i do is cry, is there any one that can help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAD MORTGAGE INSURANCE THE ISSUE IS NOT THE LOAN THE ISSUE IS THE MORTGAGE COMPANY WONT PROCESS THE PAPERWORK NEEDED TO SETTLE THE CLAIM!!!!!! PLEASE PEOPLE NO MORE STUPID ANSWERS, IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYTHING USEFUL DONT ANSWER MY QUESTION. GOT ENOUGH BULL ALREADY. THANKS
THE COMPANY IS WELLS FARGO, I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHAT THE BALANCE WAS ON THE LOAN AND HAS TRIED TO WORK OUT PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS BUT I CANT BECAUSE THEY WONT GIVE ME ANY INFO,

My fiance needs financial help?

April 30th, 2010 4 comments

My fiance and I have been engaged since last July. He lives 2 hours away, and lives with a relative of his. Anyway… Recently, his relative who owns the house, has invited 2, (maybe 3) other people to live with them. 4 grown people sharing a small house with one bathroom and maybe 3 bedrooms could be quite.. uncomfortable. In addition to that, they started out with 3 dogs, and the new people brought 4 more, so there’s also 7 dogs there as well. My family is already hard on him, because we met online and there’s an age difference between us. If they found out about his, it wouldn’t help either of us at all.

Last year, he lost his job as a manager at a bar&grille because it went out of business. The relative he lives with was the owner. He was on unemployment for a little while, and now has the fortune to be working full time at Giant. However, he has to be working at least 45 hours to pay his bills. It seems to me, that he’s the only one there that has a job, and he can’t afford to pay ALL of the bills by himself. If the others are paying rent, she’s not using the money for bills. His credit card bill is going up, and he can’t afford to pay it back, because he has to spend his pay checks on the bills that he shouldn’t have to be paying on his own to begin with. He’s trying to find another, higher paying job, but obviously, that’s not an easy thing to do. He wants to get out of that place, but he can’t afford to move. His relative won’t give him his W2 so he can’t do his taxes, apparently because she owes them money. He’s convinced that eventually, he’s going to be so far into debt, he won’t have a place to live, or a car to drive, or a way for us to keep in contact, much less marry. And, if his relative won’t give him his W2, he can’t do his taxes, and he might have to go to jail.

I work part time as a local grocery store. I just bought my first car, and I’m spending most of my own money on my insurance and phone bill, and gas. I want to help him, but I can’t, and he won’t let me. I suggested declaring bankruptcy, if he had to, and he said that that would destroy his credit, and he won’t be able to get anything anyway.

Is there anything at all that I can do to help him get passed this? It is extremely difficult thinking that eventually I won’t be able to contact him for an indeterminable time. Perhaps, this might even bring the end of our relationship. Any helpful suggestions, financial or otherwise, would be greatly appreciated.

does my ex need to be notified that I am filing bankruptcy?

April 6th, 2010 4 comments

I live in michigan and have filed bankruptcy. Due to my employer closing some locations i lost my job about 5 months ago, with that i lost my health insurance. I had a major medical emergency that came up and have hospital/doctor bills totaling about ,000, so I was left with no other choice. I have a daughter and have 50/50 custody w/ her mother. We were never married, never had any joint accounts together, no house together etc etc. I pay a month child support and am currently overpaid on my child support by over 0 due to a "computer glitch" as friend of the court calls it. I know child support does not get put into bankruptcy. My lawyer called me today and said he was finalizing everything and that he needed my ex’s address because he has to notify her that I filed bankruptcy. I questioned as to why she had to be notified and he said he was doing it just to be on the safe side. on the safe side of WHAT?? as I stated, we had nothing together and this bankruptcy has nothing to do with her. Why would she have to be notified?? I do not want her to know that i am doing this and its none of her business of whats going on in my life. Is it a law in michigan that she has to be notified or if i do provide her address to the lawyer can i request that no information be given to her??

any info or answers on this are appreciated!

How many are against health care reform for the simple fact that reform is Obama's goal?

April 6th, 2010 5 comments

Why would anyone think that health care price increases, bankruptcies, etc are okay? And please don’t go on about "universal health care", "canada," "that we need reform, but not what Obama is pledging, etc…" Would the republicans even try to change anything in health care? Or are the lobbyists for the drug and insurance companies paying too much money for them to have the courage to admit this is BS? How could the insurance companies be able to deny and drop anyone (individuals and small businesses) whenever they felt the need? How could that have been legal for this long? How could people have to depend on working for a large company to get decent insurance be acceptable all this time? WTF?
Seldon-what drug are you on? I am for Obama and health care reform. You are on something, my friend.
Consgreat-what are YOU on? We already cover the illegals, and the poor, who have nothing to lose. We need to help the middle class with reform, because they are always the ones who get screwed.
Redlad-here we go again. Rambling on universal health care. We have to start regulating the insurance companies, period. No denials, no dropping when someone gets ill, no more bankruptcies due to health care bills. There is a HUGE gray area between universal health care and adding regulations.

Is this the change we'e been working for?

March 26th, 2010 9 comments

Every American will finally be guaranteed high quality, affordable health care coverage.

Every American will be covered under the toughest patient protections in history. Arbitrary premium hikes, insurance cancellations, and discrimination against pre-existing conditions will now be gone forever.

And we’ll finally start reducing the cost of care — creating millions of jobs, preventing families and businesses from plunging into bankruptcy, and removing over a trillion dollars of debt from the backs of our children.

But the victory that matters most tonight goes beyond the laws and far past the numbers.

It is the peace of mind enjoyed by every American, no longer one injury or illness away from catastrophe.

It is the workers and entrepreneurs who are now freed to pursue their slice of the American dream without fear of losing coverage or facing a crippling bill.

And it is the immeasurable joy of families in every part of this great nation, living happier, healthier lives together because they can finally receive the vital care they need.

This is what change looks like.

Why do congressmen and business pundits keep asking about banks "sitting" on TARP money.?

March 11th, 2010 1 comment

I keep hearing about the outrageous bonuses, and then complaints about how these TARP banks won’t loan out the bailout money. They all ask why the banks are just "sitting" on it. Banks don’t "sit on money" anymore than required by regulation and law. Hasn’t all that TARP money been spent on covering those Credit Default Swap insurance claims? Those banks sold CDS insurance will no requirement of maintaining any potential "claim reserves". Who ever heard of a bank being "over leveraged". The foreclosures are still coming in hot and heavy. A 2nd and 3rd TARP will just be used to pay off these CDS insurance claims. Really need to let those big banks go bankrupt, and loan new TARP money to solvent regional banks throughout the country. Right now, TARP is just pouring money down a hole. Bankruptcy is the only way out of legal contractual debt.

Do any liberals know what a Sub-chapter S Corporation is, and if so, why U claiming no new tax on business?

March 1st, 2010 9 comments

yes, I also owned an S corp for 13 yrs.
..from the health care bill claiming its for "wealthy americans". Are you Ignorant or just lying?

Why would you tax businesses with the economy in the state it is now? How is that possibly a good idea, are you trying to set a new record for unemployment or health insurance reform?
>The shareholders of Sub-S corporations are taxed as individuals on thier share of corporate income.

Shucking and jiving to the end I see. Its a tax on busineses, you lie. I guess that depends on the definition of "lie" tho doesnt it.
I’ve noticed that people who know nothing will often seize on a fact that they don’t understand and act like it proves a point that it doesn’t prove.

I’ve noticed ppl that have no defense like to generalize.
Mr accountant, where does money from "profit" go in a business in growth mode? What effect on cashflow into the next year will higher tax have on "profits to an individual shareholder" (those are typically Business owners for those of you who dont understand that) have and what is the likely effect on that businesses growth?

Business tax.
and the point is the effect not the nominclature.

My company has an insurance claim issue ….?

February 18th, 2010 4 comments

I own a small business in NJ, recently we were working in a building that had a small pipe burst-on the same floor we were working on.

The building was very old and their was no way to shut off the water-simply let it all poor down until it was empty.

The insurance company of the building believes we are liable for the incident and must pay 0,000-which I don’t have as a 22 year old or even within my own companies assets. However, they agreed to accept 50k as a lump sum payment.

My insurance company refuses to pay anything because they say my class under business description is "junk dealer".

I do own 3 trucks under the company name and I am making payments on a 4th, should I sell all my assets to a new company, declare bankruptcy and change my name? I have very little cash on hand and have no other assets in my own name.

January 31st, 2010 5 comments

I believe my employer may have terminated my health insurance and pocketed my money, what recourse do I have?

January 5th, 2010 7 comments

I’ve been employed at the same job with the same health insurance for 2 years. My monthly insurance payment is split between me and my employer, and is taken out of each check. I recently received bills from doctors saying I owe for any services I have had during Sept. ‘07 because my insurance is denying the claim. I called my ins. company, and they said my policy was terminated Aug. 31st, and reinstated Oct. 1st. They confirmed this was not due to a lapse for nonpayment. The termination was absolutely sent in by my employer. I was not ever notified of this termination. In the fall of ‘07, my company, (a small business), came close to bankruptcy. I fear my boss may have deducted my half of the premium from my checks and failed to pay the ins. company. In addition, my policy renews every Oct., so it may have been simple for him to end a month early. For my insurance to be terminated, he would have had to send in the request. How can I find out for sure, and what recourse do I have?
I did ask him, he said he knew nothing of it. That’s doesn’t mean anything. I’ve caught him in several shady acts before.

Medical Assistance when there is a bankruptcy filing underway?

I’m looking for answers from those within the legal/medical community.

My husband owned a business for several years. When he became seriously ill, the company took on significant debt. Eventually, he regained much of his health, but his company still went out of business. He met with several financial advisors and lawyers, and they came to the conclusion that filing for bankruptcy was the only thing he could do.

He has another job now, which is a Godsend, though it pays him half what he made when he owned his company. The unfortunate thing is, it offers no health insurance. Neither does my job. I applied for a state run health assistance program, but realized that to finish the application you need a copy of your most recent taxes. Because my husband is still in the filing process, we didn’t file 2008 taxes.

He’s not dying anymore, but his immune system is still recovering from his illness and he gets sick a lot. Our medical bills are threatening to drown us in debt, and I am wondering if there is any program that offers help for people in our situation?
